Year 5 WW2 Evacuees Arrive at School Nov 2020

In Holly Class and Willow Class, as part of our study of the impact which World War 2 had on the lives of Torbay and Devon residents, we spent the day discovering how experiences were very varied for child evacuees.  We all dressed in World War Two-style outfits, made model gas masks and experienced the drama of reacting to the air raid siren, taking cover under the tables!  We also found out what an evacuee would have packed in their suitcase and learned about rationing, including tasting SPAM (now a firm favourite with many of the children!)  We enjoyed watching the story of ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’, which we’ll be using in our writing unit to end the term.
