Y3 Fieldwork - Investigating Changes to the Locality 18.1.23

This half term Rowan and Birch class have been investigating- How and why is our local area (St Marychurch) changing? Over the past few weeks we have investigated both natural changes which we cannot control (Storm Desmond which caused damage to Glenridding in Cumbria) and changes in our control, known as human changes (the building of the Olympic Park and stadium in Newham, London).
We have investigated how our school has changed over the years (some changes have been positive and some negative) and how St Marychurch has changed and developed as a settlement during the past 160 years. Did you know that there once was a very popular racecourse located where the golf club is and it even has a grandstand!
This week we have started our fieldwork. We are surveying 20 streets in our immediate locality to either prove or disprove our hypothesis that the quality of the environment reduces the further away you go from Petitor towards school. Next week we will be analysing our findings.
