Boys' Football News Summer 2022 - 25.5.22

St Margaret’s 0 vs St Marychurch 3

Our first competitive Cup match for two years!  It was a good game between two good teams, played in the right way.  On Monday 16th May, St Margaret’s faced St Marychurch in our first Bewley Cup match.  The boys gave their all to win, but unfortunately, it was not enough against a St Marychurch team that defended very well.  The team played really well and the final score didn’t reflect the game and the player’s performance. The boys must win their next cup match against Babbacombe if they are going to progress any further in the competition.  Well done to Harry who was man of the match.  It was a disappointing result for the team, but the players are very keen to show what they can do when they play Babbacombe in their next game.

St Margaret’s B Team 4 vs St Marychurch B Team 3

On Monday 16th May St Margaret’s B Team had a friendly game with St Marychurch B Team.  We played away at St Marychurch and their coach refereed.  St Margaret’s dominated in the first half and were 4 – 1 up after the break.  In the second half, substitutions were made to give everyone a good game.  St Marychurch made a comeback in the second half and the final score 4-3 to St Margaret’s.  Well done to Kuma who was man of the match and one of the up and coming Y5 players for the Autumn football season.

St Margaret’s 2 vs Babbacombe 1

What a result and a valuable win for the boys, which means St Margaret’s will continue in the next round of the competition.  On Friday 20th May, St Margaret’s played against Babbacombe in their second cup match.  St Margaret’s took an early lead with a goal from Euan.  It stayed 1-0 until half-time.  We continued to play really well and in the second half, Lee scored to make it 2-0.  Babbacombe scored a late goal before the final whistle, ending 2-1 to St Margaret’s.  Well done to the players for playing great football.  After the match, some extra time was played between the two teams to give the subs time to develop their skills.
