Design and Technololgy

During our first science topic 'materials' we explored making things out of different fabrics. As part of this enhancements were provided that stimulated curiosity around the skill of sewing. As a result of this a sewing station was made available in the classroom for continuous access during Busy Time.

Some weeks after this initial introduction a child decided she wanted to make a gift for her Nanna's birthday (purpose). She returned to the sewing box, selected the pieces she needed and applied the previously taught skill of sewing. This provoked interest from a number of other children. All children were able to explain who their product was for and how they made it. They actively evaluated throughout the iterative process by closing up wholes in the bag and adding decoration to suit the needs of the user.
ALL SELF-INITIATED :-)
