This term's homework competition based on DT was hugely popular. Below is a lovely write-up from Phil on behalf of him and his friends from Dunboyne Court. The winners will be taking their projects to share with the residents at Dunboyne who weren't mobile enough to make it into school.
Message from Phil:
A note to say that Ali, Heather, and I would like to thank you once again for both inviting us into your school yesterday and giving us the privilege to judge the children’s Design Technology homework competition.
As you can imagine the task to review over 50 projects was a significant challenge for us and selecting winners was equally as difficult. The hugely diverse interpretation and imagination of the subject title was refreshing to see.
The quality and standard of the entries was excellent, in addition the commitment of a significant amount of thought, time and effort by the entrants was very evident.
The option for us to review projects with children was rewarding and no matter their year group, it gave them the opportunity to impressively demonstrate both their knowledge and communication skills (congratulations to each of them).
Only after discussion with the entrants and some deliberations, were we able to achieve the unenviable task of selecting entries into the various ‘certification categories.’
To conclude please pass our thanks to Gemma, ‘runners’ and kitchen staff (enjoyable lunch both delicious and nutritional).
Write-up from the Year 6 leaders (Bea, Ruby, Ashleigh, Amelia and Ellie):
Mr Hughes told everyone at the start of January about this term's homework challenge. The project started from just after Christmas and finished on Wednesday 15th of March.
The year 6 helpers started setting up in the morning and then finished at 10:00am. When the helpers set it up they made a circle where people could sit with their projects.
The Dunboyne representatives came at 10:30 and left at 2:30. They came to see the projects that the children had been working on. The judges started with the Year 6 and went all the way down to the Reception They judged it backwards year by year and the people from Dunboyne court asked the participants questions about their project. The participants spoke about what they did and what they would change and why they decided to do the project they did. Certificates were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each year group and a participation award was given to the rest.
There were a few problems with break time but the team worked around them. The year six helpers went through lots of trial and error .
After all the projects were presented the Year 6 helpers and Mr Hughes sat and had lunch with the judges.
“All of the projects were very interesting, we talked through all of them and it was very intriguing “- Amelia
After the helpers ate with the Dunboyne Court representatives, they started to finish off judging the remaining projects.
