St Margaret’s Academy is spending some of the PE & Sport Premium in a new partnership with Reach Outdoors. It offers our children across the school enhanced learning opportunities in outdoor education. Year 6 children started the programme last week with an amazing new coasteering experience off Ansteys Cove. We were accompanied by experienced guides and the sea conditions were perfect.
Coasteering is a relatively new adventure sport that has increased in popularity. Coasteering is the exploration of a coastline by using various means including climbing, cliff jumping, swimming and scrambling. This experience allowed the children to get a real understanding of the Devon coastline and experience nature in a way that would be impossible otherwise. The great thing about the trip was that it was a lot of fun, and all the children got over hurdles that they met, from putting the wetsuits on, to not knowing what was below them, to jumping off high rocks. It was a way to push their limits and step out of their comfort zone. Essentially, the children did what they were comfortable with and physically capable of.
Check out our next adventure in November when Y3 go climbing and experience bushcraft.
