Wider Opportunity Clubs

At St Margaret’s, we are proud to offer a rich and varied out‑of‑school‑hours enrichment and extra‑curricular programme. The activities available change each half‑term, so please contact the school office to find out what is currently running.

Why Enrichment and Extra‑Curricular Activities Matter

Enrichment and extra‑curricular clubs provide children with opportunities that go far beyond the classroom. They play a vital role in supporting pupils’ personal development, wellbeing, and academic success. Key benefits include:

1. Developing New Skills

Children can explore interests such as music, sport, art, drama, languages, STEM, gardening, or community projects. This helps them discover talents they may not uncover in regular lessons.

2. Building Confidence and Independence

Taking part in clubs allows pupils to step outside their comfort zone, try new challenges, and experience success in different ways. This builds resilience, self-esteem and independence.

3. Improving Social Skills

Activities often involve teamwork, communication, and cooperation. Pupils make new friends across year groups, strengthening the sense of school community.

4. Supporting Physical and Mental Wellbeing

Sports, outdoor learning, creative arts, and mindfulness clubs help promote healthy lifestyles, reduce stress, and give children a positive outlet for energy and emotions.

5. Enhancing Academic Outcomes

Research consistently shows that children who engage in enrichment activities tend to have better attendance, stronger engagement in lessons, improved behaviour, and higher overall achievement. Skills learned in clubs; such as focus, perseverance and problem‑solving - transfer directly into academic work.

6. Encouraging a Love of Learning

Most importantly, enrichment should be joyful. These experiences help children develop curiosity, passion and enthusiasm- qualities that support lifelong learning.
